God's plan

Last Sunday I went and saw a mate of mine preach. (My church was also not on due to holidays) It was his second time at preaching and he was asked to speak on just three verses. Next year he is planting an AFES group at Armidale University, which I think is kinda cool, but it is going to be pretty hard.

His three verses were Luke 2:21-24:

On the eighth day, when it was time to circumcise him, he was named Jesus, the name the angel had given him before he had been conceived.

When the time of their purification according to the Law of Moses had been completed, Joseph and Mary took him to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord (as it is written in the Law of the Lord, "Every firstborn male is to be consecrated to the Lord"[a]), and to offer a sacrifice in keeping with what is said in the Law of the Lord: "a pair of doves or two young pigeons."[b]

[a] Exodus 13:2,12
[b] Lev. 12:8

I thought that if I was handed the above passage for my second sermon I would struggle to fill in 5 minutes. But he had some interesting observations about the passage which encouraged me to think about the following.

He that was born under the law fulfills the law
He that was circumcised would unite with those who are not circumcised
He that keeps the covenant becomes the new covenant for us
He that is called 'God saves' was and is God who saves us
He that gets a name about God lets us be called sons of God
He that was brought to the temple became the new temple for us
He that was presented to God was God
He that was first born to Mary was God's only Son
He that got sacrificed for became the sacrifice for us all
