With Christmas coming up it means that there is a break from normal routine and a time for a holiday. In theory a holiday means that you may have some more time on your hands. I'm hoping to use some of my extra time to get stuck into Philippians. I'm driving to and from Sydney this break, so that will be a good time to burn a sermon or two to listen to in the car.
I have no real reason why this book, except that Marshill Church just finished a series on Philippians in about 10 sermons and I am having about that many days off from work over the break.
May I encourage you to do something similar (it doesn't have to be Driscoll yelling at his church about Philippians). Desiring God has a few sermon series's that you can select from..

This is more for my sake so I can reference these notes later if needed, but here are my quick summaries of these Philippians talks:
ReplyDeleteGuide to Joy: Culture and religion doesn't bring joy. Christians are saints and slaves to Christ and that brings freedom.
Joy in Loneliness: Christians are a communion of believers who are not just friends due to proximity or common hobbies.
Joy in Suffering: We are all going to suffer so Christians should do it well and give it purpose with Jesus
Joy in Death: To live is Christ to die is gain. We will all die and face judgment so we all should be ready.
Joy in Humility: God opposes the proud and gives grace to the humble.
Joy in Temptation: God changes Christian hearts and desires and is at work in them. Christians are regenerated and this will mean they will obey God and not grumble.
Joy in Conflict: Religion is rubbish. God gifts Christians with justification, sanctification and glorification.
Joy in Exhaustion: Christians are to be humble and teachable and to press on, even when things are exhausting.
Joy in Anxiety: Christians are to rejoice in the Lord always and not to let anxiety rule over them. They are to think about and pray to Jesus.
Joy in Poverty: Christians are to be good steward with what they have and to be content and generous.
