Truth on Fire

This book reminded me of a modern-day Knowledge of the Holy by Tozer. It spends a chapter looking at one attribute of God and then connects that to you and why this is a good thing. I believe In His Image by Jen Wilkin does a similar thing.

I decided that this book was best read one chapter at a time with breaks in the middle. There are some comforting deep truths in each chapter and it is worth stopping and thinking about longer. I found that I would read one chapter every Saturday morning to think about more on that day.

Throughout there is a very high view of God. This is comforting, to know that the all-powerful, completely other God rules over all things. Our problems are real but our God is bigger. We need to be humble and appeal to our God for help, and the good news is, He isn't annoyed at us for doing so. He is loving and merciful. There was also a whole chapter on how God is happy, an attribute sometimes overlooked, and it goes on to say why this is important and how we can be happy in God.

This book was worth a read, and maybe a re-read. It isn't theologically dense, but says enough to explain/reveal God and connect that to our lives. It is pastoral and comforting and helps us to look up and be more mindful of who God is.
